Gashua, Nigeria, L6 Chondrite Meteorite
The meteorites listed on this page were thought to be from the Geidam fall. That turned out not to be the case and we conduced further investigation in Nigeria and had further analysis done. The meteorite has now been accepted by the Meteoritical Society and was published in Meteoritical Bulletin 92. It may be found on the Meteoritical Bulletin database here.

Ordinary chondrite (L6)
History: The meteorite fall was
reported by anonymous eye witnesses to have occurred around April
1984 (about the time of the nearby Gujba fall) near the tiny
desert settlement Kolomari close to the town of Gashua, Dapchi

Physical characteristics A most likely single stone of 4162 g
or more was recovered and broken by villagers into many pieces at
the place of the fall. The pieces were stored by villagers until
they were collected in 2005 and sent to Eric Twelker (Juneau,

olivine, Fa23.8; pyroxene, Fs20.
Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6), shock stage, S4;
weathering grade, W1.
Specimens: A total of 40.4 g plus one polished thin
