NWA 14756 LL3.15 Chondrite Meteorites for Sale

Location: Sahara Desert, exact location unknown.

Purchased: March 2021.

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3.15).

Description: Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Well-formed, closely packed, unequilibrated chondrules (apparent diameter 1140±1070 µm, N = 27) containing both glass and devitrified glass are set in a fine grained matrix containing stained kamacite, chromite and troilite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa_23.5±11.1, range Fa_0.2-78.4, N = 3; Cr₂O₃ in ferroan olivine 0.03-0.48 wt.%, mean 0.18±0.12 wt.%, N = 33), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs_9.8±5.1Wo_1.1±1.1, range Fs_4.2-17.6Wo_0.2-3.2, N = 7), pigeonite (Fs_23.6Wo_15.0), subcalcic augite (Fs_11.8Wo_31.5). Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10^-9 m³/kg) = 3.82. Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3.15). Petrologic subtype based on mean and standard deviation of Cr₂O₃ contents in ferroan olivine per Figure 15 in Grossman and Brearley (2005).
