NWA 15486 Polymict Eucrite Meteorites for Sale

Location: Northwest Africa, exact location unknown.

Found: Purchased in July of 2022

Classification: Polymict eucrite

Description: Petrography : (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU ) Complex breccia composed predominantly of lithic gabbroic clasts and related crystalline debris together with <10 vol.% of orthopyroxene and olivine derived from diogenites within a fine grained matrix. Minerals derived from eucrite lithologies include exsolved pigeonite, unexsolved pigeonite, calcic plagioclase, augite, silica polymorph, fayalitic olivine, ilmenite, Ti-chromite, troilite and Fe metal. Secondary calcite veinlets are present. Geochemistry : Diogenitic orthopyroxene (Fs _30.8-38.1 Wo _2.6-5.1 , FeO/MnO = 27-35, N = 6), low-Ca pyroxene host (Fs _51.6-52.3 Wo _3.8-4.4 , FeO/MnO = 30-31, N = 3), pigeonite (Fs _32.1-52.4 Wo _6.0-11.6 , FeO/MnO = 26-31, N = 9), olivine (Fa _49.3-52.6 , FeO/MnO = 48-50, N = 2), subcalcic augite (Fs _35.4-38.7 Wo _32.5-33.7 , FeO/MnO = 28-30, N = 2), augite exsolution lamellae (Fs _28.1-28.6 Wo _38.2-42.6 , FeO/MnO = 26-30, N = 2), fayalite (Fa _62.9-70.2 , FeO/MnO = 45-50, N = 5), plagioclase (An _84.0-94.0 Or _0.7-0.1 , N = 6). Classification : Eucrite (polymict breccia, predominantly gabbroic).
